Saint Nicholas from Vienna visited orphan kids in Lviv

On 19 December Ukrainians celebrate the Saint Nicholas Day. This Saint is considered to be a patron for children. They adore this holiday while on this day the Saint comes with magic gifts and leaves them at night under the pillow.

Shortly before the holiday children write letters to Saint Nicholas in which all their wishes are listed – material (new toys or other goods) and spiritual (health and happiness for parents, relatives and friends). The fulfillment of the wishes depends on the child’s behavior during the year. For those who behaved well Saint Nicholas prepares a present, and even for those who did not there is also something pleasant if they promise to make good in the future.

On the Saint Nicholas Day, activists from the VIC Ukrainian Club visited fifty one preschool child in the orphanage #1 in Lviv, Ukraine.

Solomiya Omelyan, President of the Club together with volunteers handed over individual gifts for each child and wished everyone happy holidays and fulfillment of their dreams. Every gift included an ABC book, sweets, fruits and a card.

Oksana Fedoriv, activist of the Club, welcomed the children with a magic story about the Saint Nicholas who made the whole way from Vienna to Lviv to bring his presents and love.

The guests played and talked with children who also organized a small concert with beautiful Christmas songs, poems and games.

For their library, the children received fairy tales books, important items for their daily routine, including a television set, vacuum cleaners, flat irons, hair dryers, trimmers, as well as various toys, Christmas tree decorations and tools for painting: albums, felt-tip pens, paints, pencils and many other small gifts.

The most valuable gift - colorful Christmas cards and drawings - was prepared by the children from the Ukrainian Saturday School in Vienna. The orphan kids promised to develop their own cards in response and send them to the children in Vienna.

The charity project was implemented by the VIC Ukrainian Club in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna.

The organizers raised funds at the charity sales of exclusive souvenirs from Ukraine at the VIC cafeteria, organized from 12 to 16 November 2018 during the Ukrainian Week at the UNO City.

The initiative was supported by the Gallery Veles, Art + Décor, Silver Story, Aba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha, UkrGifts, Ukrainian Saturday School in Vienna and many others.

The VIC Ukrainian Club expresses gratitude to all friends for creating an amazing Christmas atmosphere for a small children’s community in the orphanage.
